How to clean your epoxy garage floor

For regular cleaning of your epoxy garage floor, just a standard dust mop is best.  We like to say once a week for a quick dust is recommended, but we know that’s a tough ask sometimes, so we will just say “as needed.”  You can mop it if it’s starting to get a little dirtier.  You can also wash it down with a hose if your garage is set up for that type of care. (be sure you don’t get water on any drywall, framing, or wood to prevent mold and rot). If hosing down, just take a squeegee to get all the puddling water out. When mopping, we like to use a hard foam mop or a microfiber mop.  String mops like to leave streaks.

Products to use on your epoxy garage floor

We like to use Simple Green to clean our floors.  A simple 8:1 ratio mixed with hot water will work wonders.  Just put some in a spray bottle and spray ahead of your mop, or spot clean. You can also use 1/2 cup of ammonia to 1 gallon of hot water to mop the floor.  After mopping, just leave your garage door cracked to air out. If you have a stubborn salt film or rust stain, 1 1:1 ratio of CLR with warm water will do the trick.  Use a scrub pad or brush firmly to spot clean as needed. Don’t leave the solution sitting too long, just a minute or two.  Then rinse off with cold water.

Product Don’ts

Don’t use citrus-based products or ammonia on the floor.  The acid in these products will degloss your floor and leave it streaky.  Cleaners with soap will also leave streaks sometimes.  Using soap and not fully cleaned up, will leave the floor slippery when it gets wet.   Remember, your floor is extremely durable, but not indestructible.  Damage can occur and accidents can happen.  Fortunately, most stains can be removed, but if you find yourself needing a little extra help, don’t hesitate to call, text, or e-mail us.  If you accidentally damage your new floor, please call us as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
